New Smart Alarm

The new Smart Alarm system is a neat and compact alarm system designed for homes and businesses and incorporates the very latest GSM technology. It is a DIY alarm system that is quick and easy to install by the user and no technical skills are required. Should you need help and advice setting up your new system, we are delighted to help.

The main component is the controller. This is a small touch-screen device and is similar to use as a Smart phone. It is typically installed in a discreet location inside the home or business. In the event that the mains power fails, a built in rechargeable battery keeps the controller operating for up to 24 hours until power returns. A notification of this failure will be sent to your mobile phone via SMS text.

Setting up the controller

The controller is very easily set up using the instructions provided and only needs to be set up once. After setting the date and time, you can then set a new PIN number that is different to the factory PIN. You will then be given the option to set the various identifications for each of your sensors. For example, front door sensor. Back door sensor. Front window no. 1. Back window no. 3. Smoke alarm activation, Etc. In the event that you have an alarm activation, you will then know exactly what has caused the activation and the actions that you might need to take.

A SIM card is inserted into the controller (similar to your mobile phone) and this allows alarm calls and alarm messages to be sent directly to you. You can use a pay-as-you-go SIM card so you are not tied into contracts and you’ll only use credit once your alarm is activated be it for test purposes or a real activation.

You can set up to three phone numbers in the order of priority for alarm notifications. In the event that phone number 1 is busy, the controller will then call phone number 2. If phone 2 is busy or not answered, it will then contact number 3. It will also send an SMS text message to all three phones. The key benefit of using this latest GSM technology is, unlike traditional alarms that depend on phone lines, there are no wires to cut (and no landline charges).

The controller can be fully armed when the home or business is vacant or partially armed when the premises are occupied. The system can also be remotely armed and unarmed. A time delay option can be set in the controller for entering and leaving the building. Typically, this would be about 30 seconds or enough time to enter or leave the building before the alarm arms or disarms. The system is operated with small battery operated remote controls that can fit on most key rings. These same remotes can also be used to alert friends and family of an emergency situation and have an SOS button. The alarm can also be used for care monitoring of the elderly should they fall or trip. Should you need help or advice setting up your controller, you can contact us for help.

The Sensors

The system uses wireless sensors that are battery powered. This makes them simple and easy to install and they can be installed in minutes. Good quality batteries such as Duracell can last up to two years and a low battery LED light illuminates when the batteries are running low. A major benefit of this system is that it allows the user to extend and expand their system at any time. Each sensor is individually coded per system offering the user extra security and a reduction in false alarms. Door and window sensors inform the controller when doors and windows are opened and closed. PIR motion sensors inform the controller when human movements are detected and use the latest Doppler radar technology. For homes with pets, special PIR sensors are available that allow pets to move freely inside the home without causing an alarm activation. Wireless and coded smoke alarms, heat alarms and gas leakage alarms can be added to the system. So too can Carbon Monoxide alarms and burst-pipe sensors that detect water in an attic, basement and other locations. Pressure sensors can be installed in your car that will alert you to theft and will activate your home alarm.  Internal and external sirens and strobe lights can be added to the system to deter intruders. A free to use APP for iPhones and Android phones make it user-friendly.
